“All stylish people are unique thanks to their own sense of fashion, but a faux pas is a faux pas, in 19th century Russia as in 2012 Canada.”
Besides giving me a reason to blasphemously twist Leo Tolstoy’s introductory sentence to arguably one of the greatest novels ever written, the new Banana Republic Holiday collection, inspired by the dramatic (it’s Russian lit after all) story of a classy lady, Anna Karenina, who just can’t say no to a dashing Count although she is married to Jude Law (in the upcoming movie version), the Banana Republic collection, as I was saying, will put you on the right side of this new fashion maxim.
As of yesterday, October 30th, the Anna Karenina collection curated by Jacqueline Durran, costume designer of the new movie, hit the stores across Canada as well as online. It is a modern reflection of 19th century Russian fashion, as viewed by Ms. Durran, and will feature velvet, faux furs, lace, military cuts (Count Vronsky, the object of Anna’s passion, is a cavalry officer), dark colours to fit the fate of our heroes and a stunning red number that can only evoke fiery passion.
With more than 75 pieces for you and your star-crossed lover, femininity and grace will meet adjusted fits to make one happy and stylish couple after all. Here’s the rest of the key looks…
Dress (and read) well this winter!
