If you’ve been reading my blog for a while, you probably know that the Met Costume Institute Gala is my favourite red carpet of the year! To me, there’s nothing that compares… not even the Oscars or the Golden Globes! This year, the theme of the event (and the new fashion exhibition at the MET Museum) is PUNK: Chaos to Couture, so I couldn’t wait to see how the stars were going to be inspired by it! So let’s get right to it… starting with my favourites of the night!

BEST DRESSED

1. Anne Hathaway in vintage Valentino

Not only can I not get over her new bleached hair (that looks STUNNING), but that Valentino sheer dress is just perfect for the event: sexy, glamourous and edgy!

2. Giovanna Battaglia in Dolce & Gabbana

We can always count on Giovanna Battaglia to give us amazing red carpet looks! Once again she wore Dolce & Gabbana… and she looked as gorgeous as last year! Vive le baroque!

3. Rooney Mara in Givenchy

I’m usually not a big fan of Rooney Mara’s style, but I have to say she really did a good job for this year’s MET Gala! The cut of the dress has the usual edginess she goes for, but the fact that she went for white instead of black makes it really special!

4. Nina Dobrev in Monique Lhuillier

One of the newest trends we saw last night was the dress over pants, which Chanel and Dior introduced a few seasons ago. On Nina Dobrev, the look is especially gorgeous (and actually makes us forget about Whoopi Goldberg’s infamous 90’s disaster)!

5. Sarah Jessica Parker in Giles Deacon and Philip Treacy headpiece

I know that some of you will not agree with this choice, but I had to include SJP on my list… and I’ll tell you why! Punk has to be one of the toughest MET Gala themes, so for her to pull it off in such a beautiful way, and without looking like she’s wearing a costume… is more than commendable!

And I have to give a special mention to Kristen Dunst, who really impressed me in Louis Vuitton

Even though this is the one of the best nights for fashion, the punk theme can be really tricky, and you’ll see exactly why…

WORST DRESSED

1. Madonna in Givenchy

Now, this I wasn’t expecting… For once, I am out of words…

2. Miley Cyrus en Marc Jacobs

So Miley hears punk and decides to wear a giant mesh thing and spike up her hair… again speechless!

3. Elle Fanning in Rodarte

If we can forgive Elle Fanning because she’s 15 years old, then I have to blame Rodarte for creating this disaster… and her makeup artist for reproducing the dress on her eyes!

4. Linda Evangelista in Marchesa

Well apparently Linda Evangelista didn’t get the punk memo and thought the theme was medieval… or Games of Thrones! Beurk!

5. Alison Williams in Altuzarra

This is the perfect example of someone trying too hard, and going out of her comfort zone to look cool… Unfortunately, it’s a #fail!

Once again, I have to give a special mention to…. Kristen Stewart! I actually appreciate her effort this time, but that Stella McCartney jumper is sooo not flattering! Like the hair though…

Since I know you really appreciate the worst dressed section, here are a few more…

So, I hope I didn’t forget anyone… If I did, please let me know!

I also prepared a full recap of the biggest trends of the night, that you can find right here!
