When Bono and Bobby Schriver created (RED) in 2006, the goal was to engage businesses and people in the fight against AIDS… and that’s exactly what they’ve done! In 8 years (RED) has generated more than $275 million for the Global Fund to fight AIDS in Africa. Thanks in part to this initiative, almost 10 million people are on lifesaving anti-retroviral medication today and AIDS is slowly becoming a chronic disease instead of a death sentence…
As you’ve heard in this mini documentary Lifesaving ARVs can cost as little as 40 cents a day and can prevent mothers from transmitting the disease to their babies. That’s why we should act, well all year long… but especially today for World’s AIDS Day! I really love Apple’s initiatives this year because they allow us to contribute, whatever our budget is…
Let’s start by my favourite! Until December 7th, the Apps for (RED) campaign will feature exclusive, new content in 25 of the most popular apps. Every time a customer purchases a participating RED app or In-App purchase, 100% of the proceeds will go to the Global Fund. Apps include: Angry Birds, Djay 2, Paper by FiftyThree, Heads Up!, Kitchen Stories Cookbook… and many more!
And on December 1st only, Apple will donate a portion of every sale (whether it’s (RED) products or not) at Apple’s retail and the online stores to the Global Fund to fight AIDS.
Of course, you can also shop from the hundreds or (RED) products available on the organization’s website (up to 50% of profits go to the Global Fund to fight AIDS).
