VanityFairOscarParty-NakedDress

I’m always excited about the Oscar after-parties because the celebs often sport outfits they wouldn’t dare wearing on the prestigious Academy red carpet… unfortunately this year, some of them took the idea a little too far! I don’t know what happened, but it looked like Malin, Rita, Gaga, Irina and Gigi were all fighting for the « most naked while actually wearing clothes » title. A competition that started last summer with the Adam Selman dress Rihanna wore at the CFDA Awards

Since we’re off to such a « good » start, let’s look at all the other worst dressed of the night!

WORST DRESSED

1- Dree Hemingway in Chloe

I’m not saying the dress is that ugly (the shoes are though!), but it shouldn’t be worn anywhere else than in Ibiza’s hippie side of the island. And I know the barely-there makeup is trending, but come on…

2- Marion Cotillard in Giambattista Valli Couture

(I switched to French, but I wanted to make sure she understands if she reads this one day.)

3- Miley Cyrus in Schiaparelli couture

The pants are kind of cute, I’ll give her that. But the matador jacket and that awful fishnet around her neck… Unless she’s going fishing after the party, I really don’t understand!

4- Andie Macdowell in Leanne Marshall

This brown + rust + beige has to be the worst colour combination I’ve seen in a looong time! And don’t get me started on the fabric…

5- Selena Gomez in Louis Vuitton

When you wear a dress this covered-up, don’t go for such a busy pattern! Ok, I’m getting dizzy… Neeext!

WORST TRENDS

White cover-ups

It looks like you had two choices last night: the black naked dress or the white fully covered-up gown… and I’m not sure which one is worse. I guess naked wins, but these four dresses are a fierce competition!

Red & orange

Yes it’s Monica Lewinsky! Now that we’re passed that, can somebody tell me what’s up with the short sleeve (this goes for you too Nina Dobrev)? And while I’m asking questions… what is that pattern Camilla Belle?

HITS AND MISSES

The naked dress… part 2

So the naked dress also came in other colours… and while I love how sexy J-Lo looks in this Zuhair Murad stunner, the sheer panels on Heidi’s dress just accentuate how thin she is (is it just me or did she loose a lot of weight?)

Graphic black & white

Here’s another example of a trend done well (bravo Zoe Saldana in Prabal Gurung) and oh so wrong… Sarah and Margot, once again, I’m getting dizzy!

White Pantsuit

When you decide to wear a pantsuit at an Oscar party, you have to make sure it looks more night than day… and that’s exactly what Naomi Watts didn’t think of (add a turtleneck and she’s ready for a full 8hrs at he office). But kudos to Leslie Mann for looking SO elegant in this Giorgio Armani tuxedo pantsuit!

She should’ve kept the Oscar dress on…

… and the makeup too!

Good thing she changed…

I have to say that I wasn’t crazy about Chloe Grace Moretz’s Miu Miu floral ball gown, so I’m pretty happy she switched to this Alexander McQueen flamenco inspired dress!

BEST TREND

Not so classic black dresses

As we are moving to slightly more positive critics, I have to acknowledge the beauty of these dresses! Black is usually my least favourite colour on the red carpet, but I must say that Mindy (Salvador Perez), Karlie (Atelier Versace) and Kate (Roland Mouret) all look stunning!

BEST DRESSED

1- Diane Kruger in Donna Karan Atelier

Diane Kruger does it again! I am totally in love with this Donna Karan Atelier ultra chic asymmetrical jumpsuit that I wish I could have in my wardrobe! Just PERFECT!

2- Poppy Delevingne in Emilio Pucci

Love the print, love the silhouette, love the makeup… and SO love that choker!

3- Hailee Steinfeld in Andrew GN

At 18 years old, Hailee Steinfeld really impresses me with her daring fashion choices. This mix of pattern and texture is not easy to wear, but she pulls it off with so much poise! And can I say how beautiful the makeup is…

4- Rosie Huntington Whiteley in Alexandre Vauthier

I already liked the idea of deep green sequins (instead of classic black), but it’s when she turned around and I saw the back of the dress that my jaw dropped!

5- Chanel Iman in Zuhair Murad

After all the transparency disasters of the night, it’s nice to see such a pretty sheer dress!

And a special mention to… Sia

Just because I love her style and music so much (and I want those shoes)!
