My favourite event of the year is, and always has been, the MET Costume Institute Gala. Not only are all the major stars in attendance, but we also get to see fashion’s most powerful names… on one single red carpet! So here are the best of the best… and the worst of the worst!

BEST DRESSED

1. Christina Ricci in Thakoon

Last year, Christina Ricci blew me away with her black widow inspired Zac Posen dress, and she has done it again with this beautiful Thakoon creation that combines a beautiful embroidered cut-out bodice with pleated silk. I am without words!

2. Karolina Kurkova in Rachel Zoe

The model could’ve also been number 1 thanks to this stunning gold sequinned gown (but Christina wins for originality!). I love the sexy open back and the matching turban. Statuesque!

3. Florence Welch in Alexander McQueen

I know this is not going to be unanimous, but I’m love with this ethereal Alexander McQueen dress. The frills, the sleeves, the transparent décolleté… she looks like a lampshade (and I say this in the best kind of way!).

4. Gisele Bundchen in Givenchy

I know… Gisele is beautiful and her body is perfect (plus her boyfriend is stunning), so it might seem easy for her… but she also has taste! And she proves it with this black embroidered dress that fits her like a glove!

5. China Chow in Jean Paul Gaultier Couture

I don’t remember ever being amazed by China Chow, but this JPG dress (I thought it was Chanel…) really does it for me! I love the intricate neckline and the romantic ball gown skirt.

6. Rooney Mara in Givenchy

I’m usually not crazy about Rooney Mara and all her black looks, but I have to admit that I really like this asymmetrical delicate lace number that reveals her legs.

There were so many beautiful looks on the red carpet, and it was so hard to choose the best, that I HAVE to give out some special mentions!

Carey Mulligan in Prada

I love everything about this dress: the mix of gold & silver, the length, the halter top and, most of all, the scale like sequins. The only thing that doesn’t work for me are the shoes!

Camilla Belle in Ralph Lauren

I think Camilla Belle is really underestimated, style wise. Once again, she chooses the perfect dress for her petite silhouette. So pretty!

WORST DRESSED

Of course, there were also many red carpet disasters… here are the ones to remember!

1. Leighton Meester in Marchesa

Leighton, what were you thinking? This Marchesa is not only ugly but it doesn’t flatter you… at all! And what’s up with that tan and the frizzy hair?

2. Mary-Kate Olsen in custom The Row

Well at least now we know what Mary-Kate Olsen is going to look like 60 years from now!

3. Anja Rubik in Anthony Vaccarello

When someone is wearing a dress and we can see her hip bone, there’s a problem… That’s all I have to say!

4. Diane Kruger in Prada

Never had I imagined putting Diane Kruger in a worst dressed list, NE-VER! But I can’t fake it, this purple feathered dress is horrendous. I don’t really have a problem with the colour or the feathers, but with how the top fits. Give this girl a bra… or another dress!

5. Beyonce in Givenchy

I know she’s just had a baby and I should be nice, but I won’t! With all the options she has, why choose this unflattering transparent dress that looks like it’s going to be devoured by a feathered monster. I guess it was a bad night for purple feathers…

Let me know you think? I can’t wait to hear who where your favourites!

WAIT… you know there’s more! Don’t miss my biggest trends at the MET Gala & the most popular colours of the night!
