MetGala14-BestOf

Every year, I can’t wait for the MET Gala because it’s my absolute favourite red carpet! The stars look beautiful, the dresses are stunning and the fashion is usually more forward than on any other event! After spending all night preparing this post, here is my full round-up, including the most important trends and of course, my best and worst dressed. In other words, ALL the looks worth seeing are right here!

BEST DRESSED

After a punk theme in 2013 that was really hard to channel on the red carpet, the 2014 Met Gala was all about beautiful couture gowns, in honor of Charles James, who is considered to be America’s greatest couturier. Full ball gowns are not always my favourite red carpet looks, but last night they were definitely the best thing to wear. That’s why there are a few pretty big dresses in my top 5!

1- Sarah Jessica Parker in Oscar de la Renta

Love the black & white, love the train with the name of the couturier, love the hair… yup I love everything!

2-Emma Stone in Thakoon

How can we not fall for this perfectly feminine 2 piece? The 2 shades of pink are adorable on her. Emma Stone is really on a roll right now!

3-Emmy Rossum in Carolina Herrera

Emmy Rossum is one of my favourites when it comes to gowns and she didn’t disappoint me last night. The print of this Carolina Herrera dress just makes us dream of spring.

4-Arizona Muse in Ralph & Russo

Wow! Charles James would be really proud! That’s all I have to say…

5-Beyonce in Givenchy

After her disaster at last year’s Met Gala, Beyonce looked stunning with this sheer all beaded Givenchy number. Not exactly on-theme but beautiful!

And a special mention to Karolina Kurkova in Marchesa

My first reaction was that the print on this architectural gown was a bit too much… but Karolina Kurkova wears it so well that in the end, I like it!

+ a few other good dresses… Starting with Dakota Johnson in Jason Wu

THE TRENDS OF THE NIGHT

Spring hues

Spring colours were really the prettiest thing on the red carpet.

MetGala14-Best-BeautifulHues
Olivia Munn in DVF/ Toni Garrn in TopShop/ Reese Witherspoon in Stella McCartney/ Dree Hemingway in Proenza Schouler

In full bloom

If you’ve seen my wedding dress, you’ll understand why I LOVE these dresses! Sooo lovely!

MetGala14-Best-SpringBouqet
Tabitha Simmons & Giovanna Battaglia in Dolce & Gabbana/ Sari Mercer

BIG gowns

I mentioned it before, this was the best night to wear full ball gowns and I’m so glad these stars went for it!

MetGala14-FullGowns
Maggie Q and Karen Elson in Zac Posen/ Ashley Olsen in vintage Chanel & Mary Kate Olsen in vintage Ferre

Red alert!

I’m always ambiguous about red on the red carpet, but last night Laetitia Casta, Monica Bellucci and Lake Bell proved me wrong.

Laetitia Casta/ Monica Bellucci in Dolce & Gabbana/ Lake Bell in Tommy Hilfiger

Pretty in pink

Sometimes the palest shades can be the biggest standouts…

MetGala14-PrettyinPink
Kate Bosworth in Stella McCartney/ Suki Waterhouse in Burberry/ Rachel McAdams in Ralph Lauren/ Taylor Swift in Oscar de la Renta

Classic black & white

The ultimate proof that we can’t go wrong in black and white!

MetGala14-Best-BlackWhite
Jessica Paré in Michael Kors/ Hailee Steinfeld in Prabal Gurung/ Charlize Theron in Christian Dior

Cropped chic

Even if cropped tops are now « accepted » on the red carpet, I thought that Cara Delevingne and Gabrielle Union showed a little too much skin. Anne Hathaway on the other hand, looked perfect.

MetGala14-CroppedTops
Cara Delevingne in Stella McCartney/ Anne Hathaway in Calvin Klein/ Gabrielle Union in Prada

Shining silver

Not all shades of silver are equal…. that’s why I love Diane Kruger, like Nicole Richie and Amy Adams, but am not crazy about Chrissy Teigen and Lily Aldridge.

MetGala14-Silver
Nicole Richie in Donna Karan/ Amy Adams in Oscar de la Renta/ Diane Kruger in Jason Wu for Hugo Boss/ Chrissy Teigens in Ralph Lauren/ Lily Aldridge in Michael Kors

Ultra feminine details

I’m not saying I love all these looks, but I do like the intricate details, especially in Margot Robbie’s Prada dress.

MetGala14-FeminineDetails
Anna Wintour and Chloe Grace Moretz in Chanel/ Margot Robbie in Prada

Viva ZAC!

If Oscar de la Renta was the most popular designer on last night’s red carpet, Zac Posen was a close second… and we didn’t need a label to recognize his creations!

MetGala14-ZAC
Liu Wen, Dita Von Teese and Sarah Silverman, all in Zac Posen

Sheer legs

After seeing a little too much transparency on the red carpet, these stars decided to keep the sheer on the bottom… and I’m not crazy about it either… especially on Kristen Stewart.

MetGala14-SheerLegs
Joan Smalls in Vera Wang/ Shailene Woodley in Rodarte/ Naomi Watts in Givenchy/ Kristen Stewart in Chanel/ Bianca Brandolini D’Adda in Dolce & Gabbana

Immaculate white

I usually  love white on the red carpet, but to me, only Victoria Beckham made a good choice. If I can be honest Naomi and Rihanna looked a little trashy.

MetGala14-white
Naomi Campbell in Givenchy/ Victoria Beckham in Victoria Beckham/ Rihanna in Stella McCartney

The originals

Not crazy about Kristen Wiig and Brie Larson’s choices, but I LOVE Erykah Badu and Janelle Monae’s original looks!

MetGala14-Originals
Kristen Wiig in Balenciaga/ Brie Larson in Prada/ Erykah Badu in Givenchy/ Janelle Monae in Tadashi Shoji

(Too?) short & sweet

I’m not saying I don’t like short dresses, actually these three looks are very cute, but it was really too casual for last night.

MetGala14-Short
Elizabeth Olsen in Miu Miu/ Marion Cotillard in Christian Dior/ Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton

Green gone wrong

Nothing to add, green was just a bad idea last night!

MetGala14-Worst-Green
Karlie Kloss in Oscar de la Renta/ Donatella Versace in Versace/ Sarah Paulson in Prada/ Ivanka Trump in Oscar de la Renta

WORST DRESSED

1- Kate Upton in Dolce & Gabbana

Kate Upton is beautiful but last night, she really didn’t help herself or her figure with this Dolce & Gabbana disaster. Hate the neckline, hate the corset belt and hate the black lace over the sheer bodice. She pretty much looks like a brothel owner.

MetGala14-Worst-KateUpton

2- Lala Anthony in Cushnie et Ochs

I don’t know where to start because everything about this dress is wrong… the colour, the cut-out and the decolleté!

MetGala14-Worst-LalaAnthony

3- Katie Holmes in Marchesa

We hadn’t seen Katie Holmes on the red carpet for a long time and I wouldn’t have minded waiting longer… This yellow Marchesa dress looks like a bad wedding cake.

MetGala14-Worst-KatieHolmes

4- Rita Ora in Donna Karan Atelier

I understand that she wanted to have a ballerina inspired look… but the shoes + the « whatever it is » on her arm is really too much. Plus the make-up is really too harsh for what she was going for!

MetGala14-Worst-RitaOra

5- Sandra Lee in Dara Lamb

Sandra Lee actually took the theme too far… even Charles James would say « this is a big gown »!

MetGala14-Worst-SandraLee

And… OMG I can’t believe I’m actually saying this… but, Lupita Nyongo in Prada

I’ve been a big fan of anything Lupita Nyongo wears for the past year, but this dress just doesn’t work. I especially hate the headband.

MetGala14-Worst-LupitaNyongo

The other not so great dresses of the night… starting with Lena Dunham in Giambattista Valli

So, who was your best (and worst) dressed of the night. I want to know!
