The culminating point of award season is definitely the Oscars! And that goes for the fashion too… So here’s my round-up of the best and worst dressed of the night!

As always, let me start by the good stuff…

1. Gwyneth Paltrow in Tom Ford

Wow! As soon as I saw Gwyneth Paltrow, my jaw dropped. She was by far the best dressed of the night in this beautiful Tom Ford dress and matching cape. The cape gives her a greek goddess allure and the simple jewelry is just perfect!

2. Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton

Michelle Williams was one of the actresses I was most looking forward to see on the red carpet… and she didn’t disappoint me! I love this coral bustier dress because of the sweet peplum and its texture.

3. Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad

It’s been a while since I haven’t been excited about JLo’s fashion, but I have to admit that I’m completely in love with this Zuhair Murad gown. I love the stripes, the décolleté and the mermaid silhouette. So classy!

4. Jessica Chastain in Alexander McQueen

I was hoping to see some Alexander McQueen on the red carpet and Jessica Chastain gave me a reason to celebrate… I just love this black simple dress that comes alive with the intricate gold embroidery that looks divine on her skin.

5. Milla Jovovich in Elie Saab

Milla Jovovich looked absolutely stunning in this white sequinned number by Elie Saab. I especially love the asymmetrical neckline and how that one exaggerated shoulder makes the dress look so different.

It was hard to choose a top 5 because a lot of dresses we’re really beautiful, so here are my « mentions spéciales » of the night…

Jeanne Dandoy in Jean-Paul Lespagnard

I HAVE to start by my aunt Jeanne Dandoy (if you were at my wedding, you saw her. She’s the one that sang…) who attended the Oscars this year for the Belgian movie Bullhead, nominated in the « Best Foreign Language Film ». Unfortunately, her team didn’t win, but she looked stunning in this polka dot dress by Belgian designer Jean-Paul Lespagnard (photo: Marteen Vanden Abeele).

Maria Menounos in Maria Lucia Hohan

Even if she’s a TV presenter, Maria Menounos is definitely part of the night’s fashion A-list with this foam green chiffon dress by Maria Lucia Hohan.

Octavia Spencer in Tadashi Shoji

Octavia Spencer saved her best Tadashi Shoji dress for last! This white embroidered dress is simply perfect on her curvy silhouette!

Unfortunately, there were also some real bad choices that stood out for all the wrong reasons. Here’s my top 5 of the worst dresses!

1. Melissa Leo in Reem Acra

To me, The Fighter’s Melissa Leo’s dress was really the worst of the night. I’m sorry Reem Acra, but it looks cheap, it has no shape and the slit is just wrong. Oh, and can somebody tell me what that satin ribbon is doing there?

2. Sherri Shepherd in ??? (if someone knows, please tell me)

Can somebody please tell her she forgot to take off her bra? Actually, it doesn’t change anything because the blueberry Grecian-inspired dress would’ve been in my worst list anyways…

3. Sandra Bullock in Marchesa

I love Sandra, but this Marchesa dress is just wrong! The top part of the gown is too loose and that gold embroidered waist does nothing for her silhouette.

4. Penelope Cruz in Giorgio Armani

The colour, the fabric, the old neckline… everything about this gown reminds me of a prom dress gone wrong!

5. Penelope Ann Miller in Badgley Mischka

In an interview with Ryan Seacrest, Penelope Ann Miller said she wanted to channel the 30’s Old Hollywood glamour… She did look dated, but in the worst cheapest way.

You know it now, something I love doing during these red carpet events is pointing out the biggest trends of the night… This year at the Oscars, it was all about colour!

Beautiful vivid hues

Viola Davis in Vera wang             Emma Stone in Giambattista valli           Leslie Mann in Roberto Cavalli

Over the top colours (gone bad)

Virginia Madsen in Kevan Hall         Missi Pyle in a Valentina Delfino          Nancy O’Dell in Chagoury Couture

 Pretty pastels

Cameron Diaz in Gucci                      Bérénice Bejo in Elie Saab                                   Louise Roe in Black Halo

Chic textured black

Anna Faris in Diane Von Furstenberg,  Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace,   Rose Byrne in Vivienne Westwood

Bridal whites

Shailene Woodley in Valentino Couture        Giuliana Rancic in Tony Ward          Rooney Mara in Givenchy

Shiny metallics

Meryl Streep in Lanvin                Ellie Kemper in Armani Privé                             Stacey Keibler in Marchesa

So that’s all for my Oscar round-up! I’m anxious to know your favourites… and if you think I forgot anyone!
