July 2nd was a big day for the house of Dior, as they were presenting their first show with John Galliano’s official replacement. As I mentioned before, I think that Raf Simons is the perfect choice for Christian Dior, so I couldn’t wait to see his first Couture collection… and he didn’t disappoint!
In a room filled with fellow designers, the most important editors, the biggest stars and… beautiful flowers, the Belgian designer presented a flawless collection that was fresh and new, but that also respected the Dior heritage. I love these peplum bustiers worn on perfectly tailored cigarette pants… especially the flower embroidered number!
How beautiful (and different) are these evening pants + dress combinations?
When I was talking about respecting the house codes, that’s what I meant… The 1947 New Look reinvented for today…
The iconic silhouette was also visible in Raf Simons’ beautiful belted evening coats, that could very well be worn as dresses.
We all know Simons’ love of colour, but he can also do black… and very well at that!
Talking about colour, here’s a perfect example of beautiful soft hues on wonderful dresses.
Impossible not to finish with these dreamy flower-embroidered ball gowns… it is a couture collection after all!
So what do you think of Raf Simons’ debut at the helm of Christian Dior? Too subdued (compared to Galliano) or the beginning of a new great era?
