Alexander Wang to succed Nicolas Ghesquière

The biggest news of the week was definitely French house Balenciaga choosing Alexander Wang as its new Creative Director. What a great move! Not only is Wang one of today’s brightest fashion stars, he also has Nicolas Ghesquière’s modern aesthetic, all the while being much more accessible to a broader audience. That can only be good for the the French house.

But all won’t be easy, as Wang will have big shoes to fill! Let’s not forget that Nicolas Ghesquière was at Balenciaga for 15 years, and basically rebuilt and rejuvenated the fashion house by himself! Can’t wait to see his first collection!

Givenchy denies collaboration with H&M

It all started Monday… The Maison Martin Margiela capsule collection was still hot on the racks at H&M and already was the Twittosphere buzzing about a new collab! All over the world, people were tweeting about a Givenchy-H&M partnership (visual included)! The prestigious fashion house finally denied the rumours through the Vogue UK website.

Would’ve been great… but I’m sure it will still happen! Just give it time.

Zara agrees to « Detox fashion »

Just ten days after worldwide eco-organization Greenpeace launched its « Toxic Threads: The Big Fashion Stitch-Up » report into the hazardous chemicals used by fashion brands in their clothing, Zara announced that they have implemented a ban on such toxic fashion. The Spanish giant promised to get rid of all hazardous chemicals used in their clothing products by 2020.

In the eye-opening report (that you can read here), Greenpeace lists the results of an investigation done on over 20 major fashion brands, including Levi’s, Gap and Esprit. In April 2012, the environmental organization purchased 141 items of clothing from retailers in 29 countries and found that 89 garments had different levels of NPE’s (phthalates and nonylphenol ethoxylates). ONLY, Calvin Klein and Vero Moda had the highest percentage of positive results.

Rei Kawabuko puts her twist to Le Carré d’Hermès

The Comme des Garçons designer has created two limited-edition collections of Hermès’ mythical silk carré scarves that will wittingly be named « Comme des Carrés ». The first collection, called Noir et Blanc, will feature five scarves with abstract black-and-white designs, and the second, Couleur, will include six colourful scarves.

Both collections will hit stores in early February and will be priced from 380 euros to 1 600 euros!

Introducing Eau de Lacoste

Lacoste is launching a new women’s fragrance in the beginning of 2013: Eau de Lacoste. The fragrance, inspired by the feeling of pure white cotton fabric on the skin, should make a big splash, as soon as January 2013, with a Facebook campaign that will preview a video of their ambassador, Amy Adams. The 10.7 million FB fans of the brand will also have the opportunity to sample the fragrance before it hits the market.

Eau de Lacoste will be offered exclusively in Lacoste boutiques and at Pharmaprix starting February 2013. It will also be available at Sears and Jean Coutu as of May 2013.

You can now shop the Target + Neiman Marcus Holiday Collection

As you might have heard, Target has collaborated with luxury department store Neiman Marcus on a very special holiday collection that features over 50 products designed by 24 CFDA members, including: Prabal Gurung, Proenza Schouler, Jason Wu, Rodarte, Marc Jacobs and many others.

Each designer contributed one to three designs in categories ranging from men’s, women’s and children’s clothing as well as accessories, sporting goods, home goods and electronics. Even your pets will get their accessories. Prices will range between $7.99 and $499.99. The collection is available at all Target and Neiman Marcus locations, without forgetting both retailers’ websites.

Here are a few of my favourite items…

Marchesa girl’s beaded dress, 99$

Diane Von Furstenberg Yoga Mat, 49,99$

Tory Burch Lunch Box, 19,99$

I’m trying this « week in fashion » type of post for the first time, so don’t hesitate to tell me what you think! If you like it, I’ll definitely try to do it more often!
