The very 1st Canadian Arts & Fashion Awards were held this Saturday in the prestigious Fairmont Royal York in Toronto. As a member of the nominating committee, I’ve been involved with the CAFAs for a few months now, so I couldn’t wait to see who the Jury had selected in all 10 categories!
Here are all the winners:
Womenswear Designer of the Year: Jeremy Laing
Menswear Designer of The Year: Travis Taddeo (represented by Raphaël Dongier)
Outstanding Achievement: Dean & Dan Caten (DSQUARED2)
Accessory Designer of The Year: Dexter & Byron Peart (WANT Les Essentiels de la Vie)
Canadian Style Award: Joe Mimran
Image Maker of the Year: Chris Nicholls
International Designer of the Year: Dean & Dan Caten (DSQUARED2)
Stylist of the Year: George Antonopoulos
Model of the Year: Coco Rocha
Emerging Talent Award: Sarah Stevenson
Sarah also received a $10,000 cash prize and an exclusive mentorship program with Joe Fresh. THE COLLECTIONS will also produce her Spring-Summer 2015 look book.
2014 Vanguard Award: Jeanne Beker
A very special achievement award was also given during the evening. Fashion Television host and Canadian icon Jeanne Beker was honoured for her contribution to fashion and extraordinary career. Joe Mimran handed her the award.
If you know me, you probably are aware that Jeanne is one of the people I look up to the most. She’s also the one who made me want to become a fashion journalist, so I can’t tell you how happy I was to see her receive this honour!
After her win, I interviewed her for FashioNation.TV in the winners lounge! I can’t wait to show you the result, but in the meantime… here’s a souvenir from this privileged moment!
What a night!
