I’ve been excited about the H&M Studio Collection since it was presented during Paris Fashion Week last February. If you remember, I had even posted all the runway looks the next morning on the blog! 7 months later, the collection is finally arriving in select stores and you can be sure I’ll be amongst the first people in line at the Peel/St-Catherine location!
But before I get to my favourite pieces, I had the chance to interview H&M’s Head of Design, Ann-Sofie Johansson about the collection. Here’s what she had to say…
What does the Studio collection brings to H&M? Why did you create it at the first place?
It was time to celebrate our own fashion and our creative and talented in-house designers. What better place to do so than with a fashion show in the eternal fashion city of Paris. The collection really brings the essences of what this season has to offer – great fashion at great prices, making you able to combine with what you already have to get that personal style.
What was the main inspiration for the H&M Studio collection 2014?
For the Studio collection we felt for a lot of different influences – we looked to the 90´s and a young Kate Moss, we talked about Charlotte Gainsbourg and her tomboy look, we also felt for sporty references and we wanted it all to be a collection that you can mix in many different ways and it should feel cool and effortless. We worked with tactile fabrics like leather, velvet, faux fur, mohair and silk in black, navy, khaki green and offwhite with a warm red as accent. The menswear inspiration could be seen in baggy men´s style trousers and tuxedo blazers.
What are your three favourite pieces of the collection?
1) The off white a-line jacket – wear with wide trousers for a wide on wide silhouette that feels new and exciting.
2) The velvet boiler suit – dressed more casual with sneakers or more dressed up with heels and belted to get an accentuated waist.
3) The red boots – wear with anything for an instant kick.

As for myself, there’s many pieces I love, but I have to admit I have a soft spot for the combination of the delicate slip dress with the furry coat and, being the YSL fan I am, I absolutely adore the reinvented tuxedo!
Talking about tuxedos… I had the chance to put my hands on the same suit Solange Knowles wore at the last MTV Video Music Awards and here’s how I styled it!
